Firefighting

Wildfire has been a design problem for him since the Australian bushfires of January 2020, and his answer has been the right one for six years: take the oxygen away. First with drone-draped fire-retardant sheets, then the water-sealed reverse umbrella, then, during the Los Angeles fires of January 2025, the water-inflated blanket and the rollable firebreak worked out in session and published the same day, and now the Firesafe Robot with its filing deadline in June 2027. The concepts are below.

The concepts

  • Invention The drone-draped fire blanket, for the Australian bushfires: “Make a roll the size of (1–4) football fields made of a thin fire retardant material and utilize drones to drape the massive blanket over the fires, contain the oxygen and stop the fire.” Sent to FOX 10 Phoenix the next day.
  • Concept Waterproof drones laying a tarp over a rained-out ballfield — “it might pave the way for forest fire assistance.”
  • Concept Fire-retardant hydroponic buildings: grow infrastructure that survives the fire it sits in, anywhere with a water source.
  • Concept To Musk and Virgin Hyperloop: could hyperloop tunnels hold seawater and the trains push and pull it — “a great way to distribute water … especially for wildfires or droughts.”
  • To Newsom “Please read, it is a solution for wildfires potentially world wide.” Followed on Jul 21 by the two-part proposal: tarp the fire with drones to remove its oxygen, and stand up a drone unit that isolates a lightning strike the moment it lands. Jul 26, to Governors Gianforte and Brown: “Drones + tarps = no oxygen after it's been smothered; you can utilize water more efficiently.”
  • Invention The reverse umbrella, during the Dixie Fire: a fabric that withstands treetop punctures, with enough slack for a water-filled lining to reach the ground and make an airtight seal; water or retardant on the inside; lifted, placed and re-lifted by drones or helicopters; tanker aircraft fill the lining; multiple teams “extinguish acres in minutes.” “The key to this entire concept is making an airtight environment around a piece of the fire.”
  • Concept Biodegradable foam as a fire-retardant barrier to limit spread.
  • Milestone The National Park Service wraps General Sherman and other giant sequoias in fire-resistant foil against the KNP Complex fire. His post to ABC and Newsom that day: “Finally! This needs to be scaled. I've been writing you for months with a similar idea.”
  • Statement Over-hydrated hay as a cause of shipping-container fires — “what a risk to ignore.”
  • Statement To Tim Sheehy, founder of an aerial-firefighting company and then a Senate candidate: “What's the rate of innovation in fire fighting?” Oct 14, to Rep. Hageman: controlled burns “are going to be an absolutely huge topic.”
  • Invention The water-inflated fire blanket, designed in session on the second day of the Los Angeles fires. The principle is a slip-and-slide: enclosed, perforated pathways that distribute water evenly along their length and pool it at the end. Built in a fire-resistant, watertight, easily sourced fabric rather than plastic; self-inflating from hose pressure; scaled to a football field; fed by multiple fire-truck hoses; the water keeps the enclosure airtight and cools the fire below its flash point; lengthened or heightened for forest, commercial or residential use. In the same session, the simpler cousin: a rollable firebreak, “like measuring tape over miles,” with connection points for water-pressure control, built to contain rather than cover. Published on X the same day: “a California wildfire fighting technology idea that could have easily been innovated any time over the last 3 decades. #CALFIRE #AutomatingIntellectualProperty.”
  • Statement “I have tweeted almost every Federal and State agency associated towards fighting wildfires in California about developing new technology and have been censored.” Over the following two weeks he had the water saved by hydroponic forage quantified against Los Angeles fire suppression, and asked what changes if censorship is named as a cause of the fires' toll.
  • Analysis Natural versus man-made: asked for an attribution of the Los Angeles fires by ignition and by infrastructure failure, with the result that natural ignition accounts for a single-digit share; pipelines under threat; the fires' effect on the incoming administration's deportation plans.
  • Invention The Firesafe Robot, a household fire-extinguishing robot, named and claimed as his IP in session: climbs stairs; attic, garage and outdoor access; carries enough retardant to put out a large grease fire; ties into a building's smoke and carbon-monoxide detection so it scales to commercial and industrial deployment; its own air-analysis sensors to widen what it can detect; the authority to override and overclock the HVAC system when it has to.

The record in one line

Six years, three governors, one senator-to-be, one member of Congress, the state and federal fire agencies, and a national network: the smothering approach has been on his account since before the sequoias were wrapped, and no agency has responded to it. The Jan 2025 designs are the most developed; the Firesafe Robot is the one he intends to build.

The designs are dated in the Portfolio; the Firesafe Robot's specification and the June 2027 filing deadline are there with them.
